Everyone loves candy. Not everyone loves the same candy, but everyone loves something. What is it about candy that makes it so universally loved?
For one thing, candy makes everyone smile. It is just darn near impossible NOT to smile when you pop a piece of your favorite sweet treat into your mouth. Whether you get a zing to your taste buds because of something tart or your taste buds get to savor the awesomeness of sugar you are sure to turn any frown upside down and break out a little grin at first that widens into a smile that shows the world your pearly whites.
Another thing to love about candy is the way it can bring so many diverse people together instantly. The most important person at the office is the one with the candy bowl; she knows how to get people together to make peace with one another because everyone loves candy. Sharing your candy with others endears you to them; they will never forget who cheered them up on a crummy day with their favorite sugary confection and they will be sure to return the favor to you someday.
Anticipation is just one more great reason to love candy. You know that when you start to unwrap a piece that as soon as your ears hear the crinkle of the wrapper that your mouth will begin to water as it waits for what is surely going to be the best part of the day. Your pulse will race and your heart will pound a little bit faster with each twist of the wrapper as it gets closer and closer to being consumed.
The satisfaction you get when you finally do get to taste your candy is just as amazing as the anticipation was. Candy lives up to its own hype, that’s for sure. As long as you know the candy you have been waiting to eat is one that you like, you will never be disappointed in it. It’s not like when you go to a restaurant and order what is usually your favorite meal and find this time, it just isn’t any good. With candy, it is always good and will never be overcooked or ruined with too much pepper or something.
Last but certainly not least, candy actually makes people happy. Something gets triggered in your brain when that sugar is finally eaten that makes you feel good. They don’t call it a sugar high for nothing, right? The pleasant feeling you get when you eat a piece of your favorite candy can last a long time; that’s why having a little bit of candy on a crummy day can make it all worth it and remind you that today is just one day and tomorrow will be another that will be better. And if it isn’t, you’ll just have a piece of candy and then it will be.
